RNLI 200th Anniversary Lunch
13 May 2024
This year marks the 200th anniversary for the
RNLI, and at the beginning of April we were
delighted to host a celebratory lunch for the
charity. The event raised over £24,000 for the
RNLI.
The Grose family have had a long-time
connection with the RNLI and David Grose
in particular has been very involved in the
charity for over 50 years.
Guests enjoyed pre-lunch drinks, music, and
witnessed the signing of the ‘Commemorative
200-year scroll’. The scroll, bearing the
RNLI pledge, is being passed through RNLI
communities – lifeboat stations, lifeguard units
and fundraising branches – around the UK and
Ireland, and being signed by representatives at
each location.
Throughout the year, the RNLI will be hosting
lots of events to mark this special anniversary.
One of these events will be the Field of Light,
which will be available to see in Salcombe from
the 5th October.
‘The Field of Light’ will see 20,000 LED lights
set up across land on the East Portlemouth side
of the Salcombe Harbour, designed to be viewed
from Salcombe.
The switch-on of the lights, which will bounce
light across the water and light up the area, will
be on Saturday 5th October, and the installation
will last until 10th January 2025.
