Meet our Spa Manager.
Ali has a wealth of experience within the industry and has been a beauty therapist for nearly 20 years and, as a people person, absolutely loves looking after her clients. Here you can read a little more information about Ali and why she chose to go into the beauty industry.
What inspired you to become a Spa Therapist?
When I started in the beauty industry I originally wanted to be a makeup artist, but I ended up falling in love with healing hands on therapy.
What is your previous work experience?
I started my career 18 years ago and worked for Ragdall Hall a Pioneer Spa for two and a half years. At Ragdall Hall I was trained in how to use all the major beauty products from Elemis, Clarins and Decléor. During this time I was awarded a gold therapist award.
I moved back down to Devon and worked at Bovey Castle before my first time working at Thurlestone when we had just had one little beauty room.
I left to work remotely for myself but found that I missed the spa environment.I went on to work for the Aztec spa in Torquay and then on to the Dart Marina at Dartmouth when they had opened their new spa.
Working self-employed again I was able to gain a lot of experience travelling around to cover treatments in selection of different spas, the Pig Hotel,Salcombe Harbour , Gara rock spa and Dartmouth best western spa . I eventually returned back to my favourite place, The Voyage Spa at Thurlestone .
I had started a new role as the spa manager during the pandemic and I am really looking forward to getting back to it when we open in May.
What do you like best about working at Thurlestone Hotel?
My favourite bit about the hotel is being part of a family business where you feel valued and cared for, which is something very rare these days. I love how beautiful it all is, the gardens and the beach just down the road, you cannot help but smile and look forward to coming to work. I’m lucky I have the best team in the world.
What is your favourite treatment in the Voyage Spa?
Personally I love to give spa packages like our ocean escape which combines a bit of everything.
Our new range Voya has been a wonderful addition to our spa and we have been very excited learning about the wonderful benefits of seaweed and the results are amazing .
What is your favourite product?
What is my favourite product is a very difficult question as we have so many favourites. If I had to choose from the last year think that would be the green mandarin range from Decléor, when combined in a facial the smell of beautiful Mandarin is heavenly.
The Voyage Spa is currently looking for Spa therapists to join the team once we open again in May, if you are interested in this role please send your CV and covering letter to hr@thurlestone.co.uk.
